sump pump airtight lid question
I'm installing a new sump pump in a crock with an airtight lid. I believe the lid has 2 holes, one for the water discharge pipe and one for an air vent pipe. I assume that without a way for air to get into the crock, the pump wouldn't be able to pump the water out because it would create a vacuum effect, correct?
The main reason I'm asking is because I don't want to have to run 2 PVC pipes and drill 2 holes in my rim joist if I can avoid it. I'm sure I could just leave the one hole (for the vent pipe) open but then there's a radon risk.
