Subfloor patch

Hi all,
I patched a section of subfloor in my house. The subfloor material is the same but there appears to be some variations in thickness. As a result in some places the patch lies 1/16 to 1/8 of an inch below the adjacent subfloor.

I am planning to go over the entire area with another layer of 5/8" ply before putting down vinyl.

My question is what should I do, or do I need to, level out the joints. I figured I could shim it up, but that seems like the wrong thing to as I imagine I want the subfloor flush to the joists. The other option is that I could just take a belt sander and feather out the small lip?

Thoughts? Better ideas?

Thanks much
Brian

When you do that...drop a few gobs of construction adhesive in the low area. When it hardens and dries it will bridge the area and firm it up.
