Stipple drywall ceiling

What is the best way to remove the stipple from my ceiling, I have been told to sheetrock over it but I really do not like that idea. Has anyone used the porter cable 7800? I'm looking for a flat ceiling. This is not popcorn ceiling

Unless your stipple is super thin: You can scrape with a square point shovel.. sand until...2012... and skim coat until 2014 (if we are all still here)... and you will still wish you had done a rock over if you want a good smooth ceiling.
