step out of exterior door

was thinking somebody told me once it was not code compliant to open an exterior door and have to make one step down. Have to have a landing of sorts same height as threshold. Old way was a step. Landing or no landing ,,,that is the question??? If I need landing what size should it be??

Dont think replacing one step and slanted to house short walk needs a building permit. Threshold is about 14 inches above dirt level. since no railing required a continuous step around so you can step off any of three ways.

Making small project a concrete solid pour. walk is 20 feet by 3 feet total including new step, possible landing area. Northern Nebraska location if it matters. Tell me what I need to know!

You can have a step outside the door for residential. 7" height step is recommended. 7-3/4" is max.

Commercial is usually level because of handicapped accessibility and egress requirements.
