Steel bar joist design for concrete floor
I have a sloping incline where I need to construct a 2 car garage. I am considering steel bar joist type construction rather than conventional fill for the floor. The front footing will be on grade, the rear about 7 or 8 feet off the ground. I need a design utilizing the joist, decking and anchorage. The stem walls would be 8" concrete block. Anybody familiar with this? Any advice on where I can find design data or how else to proceed is appreciated.

Are you referring to the Hambro system?

Another one to look at is pan deck or hollow core precast panels (my favorite)

I was to referring to the Hambro system. I am not familiar with the pan or hollow core system.

Hambro is a good system, it needs to be designed by and engineer, like any concrete floor system. It is relatively easy to to install. The supplier will rent you the support brackets for the pour, you will need to purchase the plywood. After the pour clean up the plywood (1/2") and use it for the roof sheating.

I have a preference for hollow core (aka coreslab, google it) if it is available in your area. once walls are poured to underside of slab, you crane it in and start the upper walls...when complete, pour a cap and your finished.

All these concrete floor system are close to the same cost per sq.ft. when finished.

Again, thanks for the reply Chris. There is a vendor for Coreslab within 20 miles of me so I will definitely investigate that system. Thanks again.
