Question

stairs

I pulled the carpeting from the wooden staircase of a home I just bought.(I'm allergic to dust and must eliminate dust collectors) There are some small gaps on the sides where the 2x10 touches the wall. What are some ways of finishing the sides? I am going to paint the stairs and put rubber stair treads on.

Those sound like carpenter built stairs---a little rough---I suggest you use a good painters caulk---
