spanning 20 feet on a deck


I guess I could of probably been a little more clear on that. I guess you are right, I just needed to span 20' for the roof. There will be minimal load on the roof, minus rain and snow which we don't get a lot of that.

Also will the flitched 2x8 going across the front be "beefy" enough to handle a swing if we wanted to put it under the roof on the trusses?

spanning 20 feet on a deck


the grid of the 4x4 posts are underneath the deck that are set in concrete and are supporting the deck from underneath. On either side of the deck the 4x4 posts continue up to give us something to secure our 2x6's to (trusses).

If you like I could draw another sketch of the deck to be a little more clear.
