Space between Bottom of Deck and Ground
 

Not sure if this belongs in the construction or landscape section. I'm in the process of building a deck and have the beams and joists installed (thanks again to everyone who helped with the footing problem I was having!). The deck will be a low-level deck with one continous step on two sides. The joists are perfectly level, but the ground underneath is not. This is causing the height of the first step to increase as you move down the deck. Visually, it's not exactly the look we were going for.

Aside from regrading the area around the deck, any suggestions?

Well since you don't want steps installed with a lean, and there are standards to what the height of a step can be, it sounds like you're stuck with the height of the step getting taller as you move down the slope. and when the step becomes more than one step tall (say about 7"), you add a second step.

Definitely considered a second step. I treid to tell my wife that, but she was "hoping" (i.e. requesting) to keep it with one step only. Is there a DIY relationship forum i can post on?

Another idea is put a planter in at the edge of the deck where it is too high
Someone else poste dpics on here where they did a planter around the corner
That defined the corner better & also easier to build the steps

Looked really nice
I actually grew tomatoes in the planter
