Soffit Fascia, 1x or 2x?

I am building an addition and it it time to put on the overhangs and soffits. The fascia is going to be covered in metal, and the soffiting is going to be attached to the underside of the truss (aka parallel with the roof decking, not horizontal). Does the fascia need to be a 2x6, or can I use a 1x6?

The slope is 12:12, so I could use a 2x6 and not miter the top, or I could use a 2x8 and miter the top. The resulting fascia width is about the same, but a 2x8 seems to be overkill. Thoughts?

Soffit Fascia, 1x or 2x?

I typically use a subfacia that is a 2x6 attached to the ends of rafter for soffit returns back to the house to have a level soffit. this also helps to prevent racking of the rafters from wind loads. it serves basically the same purpose as a rim joists with floor joists.

I use a 1x8 as the finish facia.

of course everyone has their way of doing things .......

Good luck!

Aluminum fascia, 2x6 as drawn in the lower pic, no need to angle the edge of your plywood. I keep it (7/16 osb) up 1/4" the aluminium roof edge easily spans it.
