soffit in basement

Hey gang!

When building a soffit, is it necessary to cover the framing of the soffit with OSB before drywall??

Thanks for any help!

nope, only if you suspect that it's not built strong enough or if your trying to span a distance that exceeds what the drywall will span.

I also suspect the "only if" condition is really required.... as the support is by the frame, the drywall is only for cosmetic reason. so as long as you have a strong frame which can be achieved by a million ways... osb board is just one option and is not the only option ....
