Sliding Glass Door Shattered

Hi Everyone,
First post. I was hoping someone can help me out. I have a dual pane sliding glass door off of the balcony of my living room. Last week, I heard a loud "Crack" and saw the glass of the sliding door was shattered. I checked it out, and noticed it was only the inside layer of glass that broke. The layer of glass that is facing outside was still in perfect condition. I was not near it and I can not figure out what happened. I live in Southern California, so I know it was not a weather change. The door has been installed for about a year and it is used semi-often, so I do not think it was the installation. Also, I live alone, so I know it was not due to horsing around or anything. Any help/suggestions would greatly be appreciated!
Thanks!

I have had similar happen. Turned out that it most likely had a small crack from when the glass was cut.

Call the door manufacturer and ask them to come out and determine what happened.

Tempered glass is a funny thing,
Sometimes nothing causes it break. When it
First breaks you can see a pattern and tell where the stress that broke it came from. If there are lock pins installed, you probably have your culprit. Ask the glass company to see if they see a reason. Sometimes bad framing, but them again maybe nothing.

A typical glass warranty will cover spontaneous breakage within the first year. The reason being that if tempered glass left the manufacturer with a flaw, it would break within the first year of the life of the installation in the residence with settling and such.

As long as the door is sliding easily this is probably a warranty issue. Call the guy that installed it, he should help you out here.

If it has a tint to it , the guy that installed it put it in backwards, when having a tint to a slider there is a way and only one way it needs to go, if not the sun would heat up one side and break it..

Microscopic imperfections in the glass. Tempered glass is a funny thing. This is a more common problem than you would think.

Sliding Glass Door Shattered

Not a temperature or pressure issue.

Very likely a fault in the glass as mentioned.
