Sliding Glass Door Replace: Help
Greetings: I own a building with Sliding Glass doors out to a balconey.
Currently I have the old aluminum framed doors, one fixed and the other rolls. The weather stripping on it is basically a rubber flap. They do not interlock like the newer ones. The wind whistles through it and probably to building settling it is not level and has a gap where the door latches. Choice #1: Is there anyway to economically fix this? Choice #2: (If no #1) I am looking for a low-cost replacement but one that will be appropriate for a rental. The building is a frame. I am hoping to get a low-cost double-pane glass door. The door is a standard size, don't have measurements handy. I need to have it installed. Should I go to a big box and get a low cost one from there and have them install it? Is that the best overall economic choice for product and installation? ANy suggestions or alternatives would be most appreciated. Thanks, Tom |

Sliding Glass Door Replace: HelpQuote:
or does the metal frame have a built in nailing flange. Your saying your going to have it installed. WHY NOT CALL a locale contractor and let him come out and measure the door a put the responsibility in his hands not yours. I know Anderson has there 5' -10" slider for replacement of existing sliders |

Also: Don't hire a "jack of all trades" for such a job. I have seen so many horrible exterior door installations, performed by ...."a guy that I hired who does home improvement work and repairs..." Take Bob's advice regarding a local, reputable contractor with experience on installing doors.

Sliding Glass Door Replace: Help
Thanks for good advice.
I am getting a local contractor who sells Alside products. I understand they make a decent product. This guy has a good reputation and seems to be very price competitive. Of course I will get several quotes. Thanks again for your advice. Tom |
