SIP Panel homes?
Anyone know if the SIP technology is any good? I'm looking to possibly build a small started home, got .75 acre of land, and want to build maybe 1200 square feet. I got a brother in law who is in the trade, and I will use him as my general contractor. I haven't asked him about SIPs yet, just wanted to get some input.
valubuild.com has been calling me everyday somehoe I got on their s*it list, i mean, calling list...
for those who haven't heard of it...
SIPS are are great. There are specifics to using them when it comes to your utility lines and the manufacturer you are purchasing from. They def. speed things up and add greatly to energy efficiency.
The real issue is: Comparing the costs.
If they are not widely used in your area, the cost of ordering, shipping and installation instructions can negate the time savings.
Continue researching the different manufactures...that may be supplying your region.
Also, look into SIPS and their approval........ for your area in terms of the local building dept.
If this is a starter home on .75 acres, it sounds like there might be the possibility of additions.
SIPs are not easy to remodel or add on to, no matter what the manufacturers claim. You cannot anticipate everything with a standardized building system. Usually, you can expects some higher remodeling costs for electrical and possibly plumbing and HVAC.
Consisder this even though todays idea of what you may want in the future is probavly not what you will want then.
Conventional stick built is common and understood by all trades,
