single car garage , 20 x 20, turned down slab design

I'm a new member living in Los Alamos, New Mexico. I want to build a single car, 20 x 20 garage on a turned down slab. Anyone have experience or ideas for my project. The county does not have a problem with it since the size is 400 sq ft. Talk to me with experienced comments and opinions.

Far better to do a stem wall instead so the siding and sheathing is far enough above grade and the garage could be hose out on the inside if need be.

Sometimes called a perimeter footing. usually 12"x12" solid footer all the way around the perimeter of the slab.

Point understood. I plan to bond a single band of 8" cmu's around the perimeter with re-bar ties down into the slab. My wall will set on top of this. The turned down slab will itself protrude above grade on the order of 4". It was hard to put enough detail into my first post to answer all the questions that will arise. I welcome any and all input, there are no dumb questions or suggestions.--Ralph

At the risk of seeming like I am soliciting business, you should have this designed to your local code requirements, then take the plan in to get permits.

Ok, Thanks,... That's a standard floatin' slab 'round here,...

We usually put a run or 2 or 3 of rebar in the footer, 'n mesh thru-out the floor areas...

Just make sure the sub-grade is level, 'n true, then put some pitch in the concrete finish to drain away car water drippin's...

Are ya puttin' in floor drains, or pitchin' the water out the door,..??
