Simple question - proper direction of ceiling insulation

Hi everyone... I have a quick question regarding insulating a ceiling. Is there a "proper" way the insulation should face? I've always insulated ceilings with the paper face down. It seems it would be much easier though if I just got up in the attic and rolled out the insulation - with the paper face up. No fighting gravity this way!! Is there anything wrong with doing it this way?

It depends on where you live. The vapor barrier is on the warm side.

The vapor barrier faces the living area but it most cases unfaced is preferred in attics. You want the moisture to leave your house through the attic.

Use unfaced in your attic, unless you have a very low moisture environment.
