sill plate and sheathing

When you go to install your foundation sill plate should you recess it in the thickness of your sheathing or should it just be installed flush with the outside of the foundation wall then the sheathing overhang the foundation wall?

Sheathing should run past the foundation or air and insects can get in.

in my area we hang the sill plate about 1/4" out from the exterior face of the foundation. The bottom of the sheathing is typically installed about an inch lower than the top of foundation.

if your sheathing is installed on top of the foundation it can wick water up into the sheathing.

That's why the sheathing needs to be at least 6" above grade so the splash back does not get to it.

Although I've never seen it done you could install wider sill seal and let it hang to the outside, install the sheathing allowing the ss to fold down and trim off flush if that gap bothers you that much.
