Siding vs. Stucco?

Hi All! I have a mostly brick house. There is still some old cedar siding on the front (see picture below) and around the sunroom in the back. We're rebuilding the porch this summer and plan on using lattice around the bottom of the porch and my husband feels confident we can replace the siding around the sunroom ourselves, but I don't like messing with the heights.

The front of the house is what presents a problem, it's difficult to see in the picture (which is very old by the way, we've made massive improvements since this picture, which is from when the house was on the market 2 owners ago), but I'm thinking about bringing in someone to do stucco with some nice wood accents in it for the front, rather than hiring someone to do siding there. Is there a cost difference? Maintenance difference?

ETA: Haha, I didn't even notice in this picture that everything was so overgrown you can't even see that the bottom of the porch, within the brick columns, is done in the same cedar siding.

Siding vs. Stucco?

It really comes down to preference. Personally, I think siding is hard to beat especially when compared to stucco. Fiber cement siding or good cedar lap siding is very durable and only requires some painting every so often.

I think your style of house lends itself better to siding than stucco, aesthetically speaking.

I've just seen too many crumby stucco jobs fall apart or crack within months or years, and I don't care for it in climates that freeze/thaw.

Just an opinion though.

Siding you can do yourself. Forget a successful DIY stucco job. And it will cost more just to get the flashing and ventilation right.

Siding vs. Stucco?

Thanks for the replies! We are not planning on doing the front of the house ourselves because I'm too nervous about a ladder/scaffolding that high on our front lawn that has a slope! I guess we'll get some more siding quotes, it just seemed like we were getting a little ripped off for just wanting them to do the front.
