siding trim around windows, doors

New construction- Is there an advantage one way over the other: (I am doing window/door trim instead of shutters).....wrapping 2"x4" with aluminum versus using the 4" vinyl trim pieces? Windows have drip edge all the way around for j channel, doors have brick mold.

I would wrap the wood before using the wide vinyl trim any day.

Don’t just C cap the trim, bend a flange in it to lay on the wall.

Turn your trim wrap into a piece of flashing.

Just to many places for water to get in with the vinyl.
