Hello, I'm new to this site and I found it doing a google search. I'm looking for help with a siding leak problem we're having. I'm freaking out about it and my husband is being extremely laid back (we are both totally ignorant of home repair BUT I'm willing to learn!!!)
The siding is masonite (I believe) and I see these weird, tarry looking leaks all over the siding. We live in Wisconsin. I notice the leaks the most on a warm day that follows a really cold day, which strongly suggests to me that there is moisture in the walls and it's released in a thaw on the warm days.
I've contacted a contractor, but I'd really like to have SOME idea of what's really going on here so if nothing else we don't get a snow job when the contractor realizes we have no clue what to do.
Thanks VERY much for any advice. If I've posted in the wrong forum please let me know.
Hey, sorry no one got back to you sooner. A picture or two from a wider angle would be helpful. What I would like to see is the relationship of the staining to the entire window, the roof, the gutters, etc.
It looks like thats water coming OUT. What we need to see is maybe where the water is getting IN. I would suspect window flashing but cant be sure w/o closer inspection.
Thanks for your response! I'm in Wisconsin and we're getting a snowstorm right now and it's getting dark so I'll take some pictures tomorrow when you'll be able to see something and post them sometime early afternoon. Thanks! :D
