Shower Installation on Concrete Flooring
Good morning:

I'm planning on adding a bathroom in my unfinished basement. Since the floor is concrete, other than the obvious (drain, etc.), do I need to provide additional waterproofing under to the shower floor under the ceramic tile?

Of course you do---are you doing a pan 0r a barrier free walk in?

How to build a shower - Building a shower pan with pre-sloped mortar bed, liner and curb.

This is one way--liner --curb and deck mud--

Another is the use of Hydroban by Latacrete---their web site has information on doing it--

If not,I'll check back after work and answers as best I can.

A third method is to remove the entire shower floor area and sculpt a pan into the excavation and Hydroban the floor and walls---

I've done that for handicap showers---

Another option would be to use the schluter kerdi shower kit.
