shooting treated sill 2x4s into concrete

old concrete is much harder to get your nail shot into.I would glue the plate down, shoot nail with max. load, and move on.Never try to hammer the nail down further because chances are it will just loosen the nail.

If attaching to cured concrete and are already using max powder charge, you may have to drill holes with rotary hammer and use split shank or deformed shank anchor pins, available at contractor suppliers. They look like a blunt, fat nail with an oversize head, and either have a "kink" in their shank, or a couple of protruding nibs punched into the shank. Best driven with a three or four lb hammer, and hope you don't have to remove them.

I use 2-1/2's also on cured concrete. After all...It's in concrete and will only see sheer loads on most apps anyway.
