Question

Sheet Foam Insulation

Could anyone tell me the difference between sheet foam insulation?
On my last visit to Menards I noticed three different types of sheet foam...White, Pink, Blue...

I'm not interested in the technical information I just need someone in the know to advise me which one would be best in a boating situation...

I'm planing a homemade boat project that uses foam as the boats hull core, with plywood and fiberglass over the hull...(Weight and water retention are my main concerns)
I posted this question here too http://www.diy-questions.com/index.php/topic,6.0.html but there are just getting started and have no one to help me yet.
All help will be appreciated...

Perhaps you could check out foam used for docks. match up the specs with what they sell for marine apps and see if something similiar and cheaper at building supply.

pink and blue foam are from two different companies who make the same stuff; XPS. you want that for a boat; water proof. white boat is ESP; not water proof.

I recommend you do some research on boat building with foam or foam sandwich. You do not want a foam (plastic) that is dissolved by
other products (polyester resin etc.)

Here's a link that may get you further info.

Good luck.

i think the foam you need is Polyurathane. Eve more waterproof than the pink/blue.
