Shed roof insulation

I'm trying to ready an 8'X12' shed into a usable workshop.
An insulation contractor told me that spray foam in the roof would eliminate the need for ventilation and a general contractor told me that rigid foam boards would do the same. I don't have enough head room to provide the ventilation needed and I'm not planning on much heat in cold weather. Just enough to keep things from freezing. Also, there is no ventilation built into this shed.
My question is, what is the best way to insulate this roof at the lowest cost? And, could someone please explain the need or no need of a vapor barrier in this application?
Is this a DIY'er project?

Spray or rigid foam, makes no difference, except the spray is much more expensive, but less work!

The cheapest would be to use rigid and do it yourself! If you are hiring a contractor, I would spray as the labor cost would be less!
Using rigid requires cutting and fitting, plus caulking where the rigid meets the rafters. So, you don't want to pay contractors rates for the labor involved!

There, you go! That's my opinion!

Shed roof insulation

Keep in mind some roofing shingle makers require ventilation for their warranty. V.B.: http://www.ecohomemagazine.com/energ...gy-claims.aspx
