Sheathing Inspections?

I just asked my inspector if I can go ahead and put up my siding before I get any inspections. He told me that he needs to do a sheathing inspection.

He never told me that he needed to do this. All he said is that he needed a Plumbing, Elec, Framing, Insulation, Final inspections.

I have Tyvek on and the windows sealed.

What does he really need to see that he can't see from the inside?

He needs to see the nailing pattern.

Sheathing Inspections?

Just talked to him. Now he said that it is not required but most builders want one. He said that all he needs to do is during the framing inspection, push one of the walls to make sure it is solid.

Proper nails, nailing pattern, and sheathing material.

Did you do it to code for your area?

Inspector was very nice to you. GC's are usually responsible to get all required inspections even if they are not called out on the permit.

Local Building officials are not legally responsible for errors or omissions.

In NY the framing inspection was done with the sheathing in place. Besides nailing pattern and the size/type of nail used they also check the strapping that is now required.
