Sharing Kings?

Hey fellas,

I am installing 2 windows next to each other in the same wall. They are each 36" wide, and will be installed close to one another. I am wondering if I can use 1 king stud in between them, with a jack sandwiched on each side, or should I use a king for each window? It's on a 1st floor (garage) with only attic space above and a 22' truss span (load bearing wall).

Thanks

There's no reason you can't share a king stud. The window on either side doesn't add to the load of the stud.

Yea I suppose you are right, the jack studs are really carrying the load from the header. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

Size the header as if it was one giant window then frame between, no worries at that point.
