Selecting a home builder

I realize this is not a DIY topic per se. I can't post this on a pro site cuz I am not licensed in the industry. I am someone who wants to build their retirement home in 6 yrs or less. Getting a head start, a big one. I believe many on this site have worked for home builders. I am looking for "inside tips." I know the basics from researching on the net. Pretty logical. You guys in the business can tell me info websites won't or can't. Thanks to anyone who can help.

Selecting a home builder

If you search "class action" and the builder name and you get some hits
that is probably not good but
almost anyone who is large enough or has been in business long enough may
have one of these albatrosses around his neck.

Finding the 'normal' number of any lawsuits against a builder may be difficult.

Selecting a home builder

This topic comes up often so search the site for suggestions. Work with a home designer or architect. Ask around. Real estate agents will know the good builders from the bad/cheap ones. In addition to a litigation search, contact the BBB and your state licensing authority to explore complaints---and more importantly how they were resolved. You have some time. Meet and talk with some builders at home shows and so forth or just stop by job sites.

I'm sorry, I can't understand what you're looking for as far as tips? info? or builder suggestions? where in what area? what kind of websites are you looking for?

Selecting a home builder

Visit some of the sites they are working on---

Sdsester hit it--architects and designers will know who delivers a good house on time and in budget---

If you see a house or two that you admire---knock on the door or leave a note---home owners are pleased to relate their experiences with a builder--
