Seal off area between rough opening and asphalt felt with spray foam?

I finished putting in one of 5 new Integrity windows and was inspecting the job when I noticed air infiltration. This is not coming from the window or the area between the window and asphalt felt but from behind the asphalt felt as it stiff and does not conform well to tight turns (it will form a radius rather than a 90 deg turn to keep from cracking). I know that asphalt felt is not a vapor barrier but I want to at least stop it from ducting air through these gaps.

Is it wise to use some low expansion foam in these areas between the rough opening and the felt or would I create a dam by putting something onto the wall system that is not flush with the framing / sheathing?

Thoughts??

Thanks

I have already foamed the area between the window and the felt; but you are saying that it is OK to foam behind the felt (between the felt and the wall) as well?

Thanks!

it is okay but not necessary. As long as the air gap between the stud and the window is sealed.

I understand the job is finished now, but--just out of curiosity: What weight felt did you use for this that is giving you a hard time bending it? Thanks, David

I used #30W (actual weight of ~16lbs / square which is just above the code in my area). It bent OK, I just didn't want to crease it hard against the 90 degree bend going into the rough opening. Maybe I will put more staples in on the next ones or even try heating up the felt with a hair drier before application on the next windows.
