Seal gap between new and existin basement floor?
 

My basement was extended some years back.
This basement floor is a step down from the original slab.

My new slab butts against the old footer of the old slab.
The cement was just poured up to the footer.
It is jagged and has gaps.
There is dirt in the gap.
It does get moist with heavy rain.
Dirt just turns color. No water ever comes out.

I want to put a wall directly over this area.
I think I should seal this area of the floor?
Any thoughts?

I can picture it, but do you have pictures to show about how much area you're talking about?

Ayuh,.... What I'm seein',...

I'd hose it down, 'n flush out the crud,...
Then work my way down through it, trowelin' in/ on hyd. grout to true, 'n level it...

There is a planned doorway.
I am going to make a form out of wood so I can pour concrete to square out the step. Do I use standard pre-mix concrete for this?

The rest of the length will be hidden by the wall I am going to build.
So I just want to seal it off so I can build the wall.

yes you got the right idea...I would use bagged ready mix and frame to nice square step....it will look good....:yes:

I was just going to form and square the concrete where to door way will be.
I didn't want to do this around the rest of the basement, since there will be a new wall hiding the area.

So I guess I just use hydraulic cement in the other areas?

Good ! That way when the moisture comes and goes it can wick into the wood framing and rot the boards and it can get into the drywall and create mold in the walls. Yup...good idea. Don't do anything to close of the ragged edge anywhere but at the door.:)

I never said I didn't want to fix it!
Do I need to form and pour the entire area? Is that the proper way to fix this?

There will still be a seam in the concrete where it intersects the floor. Won't this draw moisture even after I form and pour?

And if the proper way is to form and pour I can do this.
I have my mixer still in the basement.
