screws or nails

anyone have opinions on using screws or nails for flooring? by flooring i mean the sheeting directly on the joists. iv heard that the constuction adhesive does all the work and that coated nails are fine. some say ring shank nails, and some swear by screws. any advice or opinions are appreciated.
thanks,
john

these or something like it. it used to be a question of tinsel strength. nails used to have more but some of the newer specialty screws have the same if not more strength. plus always easier to unscrew then rip nails out. get yourself an impact driver / glue down an go to town.

there is no problem with nailing at all with the coated nails. make sure you use ring shank. it really just boils down to what your more comfortable using

Construction adhesive and 8D ring shank nails for 3/4" subfloor. Preferably with a pneumatic nailer and a compressor.

gotta be a ringed shank nail. Glue and screw. Or glue and nail. In my opinion, they are equal.

For years I used a ring-shank nail, until the screw-shank nail came along. It actually turns 1-1/2 times (8d) as it goes in or out, not wrecking the wood fibers punching a hole as the ring-shank. I never went back as I had less squeaks. When you set the deck ply, let it down- not flop and drop. The glue bead flattens to 1-1/4+" wide, almost worthless. Start nailing from the center of sheet outwards while standing on it.(No air pockets) Be safe, G

well, i finished the floor today(started this morning) and i went with 8d ring shank nails with construction adhesive. seems pretty good to me. everything went pretty smooth (other than having to stop for a couple of hours to dig for my drainage pipe). thanks for the advice and im sure ill be asking for many more opinions. john
