rough estimate of cost for my project
 
want to add a 20x40 ft addition to the back of my single story wood frame home. finished on the out side, we will finish the inside??

That's like giving the dimensions of the size of a car and asking to for a rough estimate.

Even if you gave any information..which you did not ...no one can give you an estimate. The internet is not the place to get estimates. You have to get them from legitimately contractors in your area.

The guys here really hate giving estimates.....too many variables. Like where you live...soil.....climate....building codes....Brick or vinyl....

What would cost $201/sq ft in NJ might cost $50/sq ft in Miss.

10 years ago when I was talking to a couple of contractors about the 'average' cost, range was $100-$150 sq ft depending on options.

This is not the place to ask....call up some contractors in your area and start getting quotes.....get ready for sticker shock...
