What is "cedar tone wood" ?
Is that an actual variety of cedar?
or some sort of stain used on other (pine?) wood?

well there ya go. wood needs to be protected at ground level. The posts I've placed I used post cement to just above the ground and I sloped it away from the post.

Menards wood too. Actual cedar though.

You sealed them with wood preserver, foundation sealer something before installing them right?
If you not using pressure treated wood then set them with gravel not concrete for better drainage.
