Question

roof vent and vent stack gasket installation

when installing a roof vent and a DWV vent stack gasket on a roof, was wondering if the bases of either should go on top which layer: sheathing or tar paper ? pretty sure they should go below the shingle but unsure about the two layers underneath...

thanks in advance

Imagine the flashing as the next shingle. Put it on top of the row below. Then cut the adjacent row of shingles to fit around the pipe. Then the row above that may need to be trimmed a little. Tar each layer

since it is considered part of the shingle layer, it goes on top of the tar paper.
