Roof Outlookers Questions....

There is just not a whole lot of info on the web when it comes to outlookers....

I am going to be doing a 24" eve on the side of the roof....

What is the typical spacing of outlookers? 16"? 24"?

How many rafters do you typically bridge them across? My rafters are going to be 16" OC....so I was thinking of notching 2 rafters (ridge rafter and the 1st inside one) and then butt nail the end of the outlooker to the next rafter (not notched).

Does that sound about right?

Roof Outlookers Questions....

Hi there.

Notching two rafters and butting to the third would be the "double barrel" approach. Probably notching one rafter is plenty.

24" OC lookouts supporting your barge rafter should be plenty, too.

Have you framed your end walls yet? It not, you could lay those out so the top plates can accept 2X on edge, and not have to notch the hell out of your end rafter.

Good luck.
