Roof Framing Details

Hey folks,

I'm building a workshop and have some questions around framing the roof peak.

It's a 3.25 over 12 pitch roof, engineered trusses 24" OC spanning 22'6". The width of the garage is 30'. I am putting a steel roof on, with 1x4 strapping underneath it 16" OC.

I am putting a ridge vent on at the peak.

Now here is my question: For the peak, is it essential to have blocking between the truss peaks? If yes, is it possible to put 2x4/2x6 blocks on either side of the ridge vent, to maximize air flow?

... And in addition to the strapping I will be putting some diagonal strapping in the attic to help keep it upright.

Thanks in advance!

Mike

Mike,

You have no choice but to follow the truss manufactures installation guide. You will need to do so for your inspections. Do you have permits? What does your plans say?

Yes, permits, etc. Truss layout not included with delivery of trusses. Going to call them on Monday to see what is required. I've read over the individual truss specs but I can't find the correct answer there. The closest I've found is strapping on the bottom chords every 10' on ceiling joists if no rigid ceiling is to be installed.

I'm going to call the eng. that stamped the plans as well...

Ask them for their website and see if you can print the installation guide out to have on site.
