The beam also needs to be continuous to the foundation? Or can it sit on the top plate as long as i have a support path through the wall down to the foundation?

Had a hard time finding pictures of ridge beam support.
What does your blueprint say?

Ridge beam support.

Typically a BD is going to go over blueprints in a plan review and they're going to be looking for blueprints prepared by a licensed engineer who will place a raised embossed seal on the original prints you are turning in with your permit application. I'm guessing you're not a licensed engineer, and most of us here are not either, and even if one of us was that person might not have enough information to answer the question...

When I hear ridge beam I think of the board at the peak of a roof... That doesn't sound like what you're talking about, is this just a beam under floor or ceiling joists and what is it supporting? If you're talking about it being inside a wall, why not just make a load bearing wall?
