Retrofit Vinyl siding

Looking to attach a screened porch addition to my house. When I cut the siding to attach my screen wall to the house, how do you insert and attach the J- channel without tearing out the whole section of siding? Is there some sort of J-channel retrofit that has the nail flange on the outboard side rather than inboard?

Never done siding work so be gentle!

I will be as gentle as possible: Unfortunatley, No. There is no J-channel retrofit for such an application.

What you must do is: Remove all the siding from that particular that will be affected. Attach your addition. Install your J-channel as needed in the same area. Then take the previously removed siding, cut to the new required lengths and install.
It's not that big of a deal. Purchase a vinyl siding "unzipping tool", remove the siding until needed for re-installation.

Example of removed siding to accomodate work area (note some siding left in place):

Re-installed with new sections:

Retrofit Vinyl siding

Thats what I thought! Anyhow, one side is going to be flush with the side of existing structure. Currently, there is a vinyl corner board running down the length of the wall. So the roof will extend beyond the side(soffit), so I can terminate that leg of the cornerboard there. What happens with the other leg? Will I need to take of some siding down that way too to add a J-channel there?

Just take enough of the ends of the vinyl siding panels off, to be able to slide your J-channel under it, and nail it off.
If you can do that, you don't neccessarily have to remove the entire sections of panels.
