Resilient Channel install around windows and doors

Hi folks... I need a spot of advice for my resilient channel install. I understand the basic principles of RC installation, but I've hit a small snag. My room has one window and one door that I'm having to work around. And both the window and the door have large (6-8"?) header blocks above them. This makes it very hard to find a good place to hang the RC without having it directly on top of the header blocks. Is there any hope for avoiding a "short" by having the screws go through the RC and into the framing?

The only thing I can think to do is to hang it anyway and just use screws of a carefully chosen length (1" for the first layer of 5/8" drywall and 1 1/2" screws for the second layer of 1/2" drywall.

Anyone have any insight on this? Thanks in advance!
