Replacing Spiral Staircase

We are looking at purchasing a home that has a spiral staircase leading to a loft that can be converted to a third bedroom. We want to replace the spiral staircase and are wondering about the cost/labor involved. Is this a DIY project or something that needs to be contracted out? How hard is it? Is there any place that sells precut stringers? Thanks for your advice!

If theres a spiral there its probably because of room restraints. Why in the world would you want to get rid of a spiral. Is it a cheap diy one or a site built one? There expensive to build. A new stair case is not a dyi unless youve had some experience in staircases you can really mess one up bad.

Once I put together one of those oak spiral kits you see advertised in the back of Pop Sci. and other mags. I am a carpenter, but if you can follw directions, you can do this. Don't be afraid. Just finish step 1 before you start step 2. Make sure you got the right heighth before you open the box.
