Replacing lally columns

I have a 33 year old house with a dry basement, however the 10 lally columns have rusted and the steel is splitting. They look terrible. Should I box them in or replace them?

Something wrong here. I have a 53 year old house with a damp basement, and none of my lally columns are rusting or splitting, and the painted steel looks near perfect. Post some pictures, there is no way a lally column should rust in dry conditions, unless there is something really wrong with the column, in which case you may need to replace it since it is holding up your house, and failure is not an option.

Splitting? Something is very wrong.
Does your house feel flat and level?
New lallies next to the old ones, good and snug, then box the pairs in if you want to.

No question about it, replace them! You can get more info at my website www.deancolumn.com. If you have any questions please let me know. David
