Replacing basement support columns

Just toying with the idea of making our basement more open and removing 3 support colums (probably made of brick or block). Certainly the adivice of an engineer is in order, but I am wondering if anyone has an idea of how much a project of this sort will cost.

No one's going to be able to even give you a ball park price.
Just make the phone calls and get some quotes and you'll know the exact price.

Maybe something bad, maybe something good. I guess we'll never know, 'cause you're going to guard it. You won't touch it, will you?

Replacing basement support columns

Removing the columns costs virtually nothing. Replacing the existing support beam with a properly sized beam capable of supporting the load, priceless.
