Removing a (block) wall - questions

I might want to remove a wall from my (all block construction) triplex. It's a short (about 5 foot) wall near an outside corner that originally made a small pantry.

1) How do I make sure this isn't a load-bearing wall before I knock it out?
2) How do I knock it out?
3) How do you clean up the place where the wall intersected the other wall, and make it look pretty afterward?

It looks like I would just get a sledgehammer and go at it, is that about right? I don't think there are any wires or pipes inside...

Thanks!

This sounds like a load bearing wall to me. I'd pass on the sledge hammer until someone with some knowledge about the structure can be called in.

Ok, thanks - who would I ask to look at it? A general contractor? An engineer? I'm new to these things...

Try city hall; here you can get the original plans for your home. Cost $50.
