Remove asbestos siding or cover

I have a small area on the back of my house that was an addition to my kitchen. It is covered with asbestos siding, probably no more than 1.5 or 2 squares. I was originally going to remove all of the asbestos and replace it with new siding, but was told by someone to just leave it there and put vinyl over it.

Has anyone done this before or have any suggestions?
If I do decide to cover the asbestos rather than remove it, can I attach the channel directly to the siding that I am covering?

Any info is appreciated.

My last house had this siding on it and as long as its not disturbed, there is no problem!

In your case, and having a small amount, I would remove it!
This siding cannot be nailed to, as it just splits and breaks apart!
If you are very careful, and pry the nail the nails out without damaging the shingle, you should have no problem.
Some jurisdictions have regulations regarding the removal and disposal of asbestos and you should check to see if any apply to your place!
When removing asbestos, always wear disposable clothing and a face mask, capable of protecting against breathing asbestos fibers.
Don't attempt to wash your clothing! It should be placed in a plastic bag and sent to a land-fill.

Thanks for the response Wildie. I think I will take your suggestion and remove it. I think it'll be easier to install the new siding also

Might want to look into acceptable disposal methods in your area as well. Some landfills won't take it, and others won't take it without proper packaging.
