is it possible to remove a small 8 ft load bearing wall and keeping the ceiling flush .without seeing the rsj protruding

If you're willing to completely re-frame the floor joists above... maybe to probably.
It's a seriously big and expensive and absolutely PRO job...
starting with the engineering.

I really think more information is necessary to answer this question. A picture is worth 1,000 words.

I think if you chose to come here and ask, you are probably not ready to tackle this project.

If you are determined, I would seek the advice of an archy or engineer. Moving a load bearing wall is a serious project, and needs to be planned and built correctly.

There is alot more to it than what they show on the DIY channel. I am not trying to sound smug or rude. This topic frequently comes up on this forum (and I haven't even been here long).

This is all my opinion. Take it or leave it.

If it's a bearing wall, it can be replaced with a beam, put in the attic and the ceiling joists hung from it, but a lot of factors go into determining what size beam you would need. Either interpret the UBC, or talk to the good people at your local friendly building department.
