Refactory clay

How do you use refactory clay on firebrick? Do you mix with sand only or do you use cement too.

Thanks.

You might try this Question in the HVAC forum,........
It's not really a general Building & Construction question......

Refactory clay

If you mean fireclay, as in a dry powder that is very inexpensive, you do it like this:

Empty the fireclay nto a 5 gallon bucket. Gently cover with water. Do not stir! Keep covered with water for 24 hours, then pour off the excess water and mix throughly.

To use the fireclay, do not lay joints as in normal brickwork. All you want to do is butter the firebrick to chink the gaps between them. Joints should be less than 1/4" maximum.

If you are doing anything outside, you should buy a premixed refactory cement, and still lay the firebrick with 1/4" or less joints.

Tscarborough,
Thank you that is the information I need. I am building an outdoor BBQ and needed this information to continue. Once I get it done, I will post a picture.

Thanks.
