refacing rubble concrete foundation footings

My new house has a very rough 'rubble concrete' perimeter footing as a foundation and has lots of pits and grooves (it's an old, old house). I would like to improve its appearance and reduce the amount of moisture that seeps into the pits and grooves by covering it with another material - either smooth concrete or stone.

Ideally I'd like to face it with natural stone and am wondering how I go about ensuring that the stone becomes bonded with the foundation wall permanently - I've seen this type of thing where the stones pull away from the foundation over time (that would be bad).

Any help or referals to other sites much appreciated.

You can't bond dimensional stone to a wall; it must sit on a foundation. You could use synthetic stone, or you could simply apply a layer of stucco to the foundation, using a good bonding agent.

Thanks! Do you think it would be feasable to skim coat the surface with cement or something other than stucco? Otherwise, do you have a recommendation as to a high quality bonding agent?
