Redoing Siding, To Insulate Or Not Insulate

I have been planning on re siding the house this year, its an older house that has had aluminum siding for prob 40 years. I noticed on the aluminum backer looked like it has some type of insulation on it. Should I replace with the 9'X3'X1" pad insulation? Or can I get away with not? There is siding that comes with insulation but the price of the siding with it is close to 700$more then plain vinyl insulation and pad.

Thanks
Shawn

I'd go with the insulation, Shawnzy.. I see you're in Ontario and it can get cold there in most regions, or hot! Either way, the insulation should help keep your energy costs down. You'll probably recoup the extra costs in a few years.
Good luck with the project!

I had the vinyl siding replaced on my house a year and a half ago. They had some plain looking nails that went through the 1" Styrofoam insulation they used and into the old siding (cedar, perhaps).
I guess the type of nails will be determined by what you're nailing into. Just check with a vinyl installer, see what they use.
