I have a wood framed cement shelled stair case leading up to my front door. Here in Los Angeles this is a pretty common style. Home was built in the 20's and needless to say it pretty much rotted away. the framing of the stairs i'm fine with. however whats a good way to waterproof the wood frame before laying down a new cement shell? Do I use the same paper i did with the stucco? Looks like originally they just nailed some wire down then laid the concrete without a moisture barrier of any kind. I think the only reason it held up was the whole house was framed with redwood.
The lens on my camera wont let me get in such a tight space. the stairs have dry rot and termite damage from years of neglect by the previous owner. When I say fine with framing I mean I know how to frame a flight of stairs. only thing i'm not sure of is how to water proof these bad boys. Do water proof them from below or is the paint, non skid going to do the job.
