Re Grade Outside

Greetings all, this spring I want to regrade the ground around my house to divert water away from the foundation...my question(s) is. How deep should I dig? and what type of "fill" works best... and please let me know if I am forgetting anything... Next question. I live in an area with a lot of springs...after heavy rains I get water that migrates through the floor, any ideas to stop this without a french drain? Thanks!!!

Re Grade Outside

If it were my place I would bring in a mini-excavator and dig down to the footer. If your going to regrade and seed anyway.

Depending on your situation you could lose the extra dirt in the regrading.

This will allow you to:

1. Inspect the footer for a drain and install if necessary
2. Install a water resistant treatment to the outside of the foundation
3. Backfill with washed gravel
4. Add a ground gutter if desired
5. Install rain conductors

Re Grade Outside

Do you have a slab floor, a crawl space, or a basement? Do you have flower beds around the house or just lawn? Is your home on the side of a hill or in a depression? Do the springs run all the time or just certain times of the year? I need moooore information.

Ayuh,... You don't necessarily need to Dig,...
You just need to create pitch Away from the house...

In my case, it just meant filling in along the side of the house with top dirt, 'n seeding it...

Depending on the lay of the land, 'n the height of the structure, you may need to dig a swale, or Not...
