Range Hood Vent Question

Hi all,

In the current project, I have a need to fiure the best way to install an "externl" hood vent. In the quick research I was able to get to, one partcular product seem appropriate.

Have any of you had experience with this product?

Please help!

Though it is a different brand (Broan), I have a unit that looks almost exactly like that one. It is quite powerful and I am pleased with its performance, but there are two things I don't much like: First, I have to bend over and look to find the fan and light switches. Second, the light bulbs are special, kind've expensive (there are two of them), and not very bright (only 40 watts each). The unit didn't come with any, and I had to get them off the internet because I couldn't find them anywhere else.

I assume you do realize that you need a specific kind of hood, designed for such a unit.

Well, I am at the begining stage of determine how I would put the vent (like the one pictured) together. By the installation instruction available, it indicates that I could just get a liner for it...

So my thought is simply to build a drop-down from the ceiling (in lieu of a costly prefab hood), and have the ventilation pipe run up to the ceiling cavity within it... Hard to describe, but I think you should be able to picture what I am trying to describe.

Since picture is worth 1k words, md2lgyk, could you please take a photo and share with me how yours look?

I'll see what I can do. I think there's a camera around here somewhere (my wife, an art teacher, is the visual one in this family while I, a retired engineer, am the logical one). Our hood is a prefab one that matches the cabinets. The cooktop is on an outside wall and the hood vents horizontally through it.

OK, I think there's a picture attached. As you can see, we have a log home that's still a work in progress (wife and I built it by ourselves).

Would you mind taking a photo so I can see from the bottom up into the powerpack?
Did you built/fabricate the hood yourself also?

OK, I'll try to do that. At least now I know where the camera is LOL. As I said, I did not build the hood - it's from the same company that made the cabinets. But it didn't come with that cross-looking thing; my wife made that.
