Rakes before or after sheathing?

Thanks, Adam

What's the best or maybe I should say the correct way to do this. I have sheathing up all around 8 foot up, with 10 foot side walls.

Should the remaining portions of the gable end walls be sheathed with the gable end trusses before or after the rakes? Typically I've sheathed them then done the rakes. However these walls required significantly more bracing to keep all the top plates in-line and I don't really want to remove them until the roof is sheathed.

Thus my dilemma with putting the rakes on before or after. I'm leaning towards before so I don't have to remove my braces; however that won't allow me to nail the sheathing to the top cord of the trusses.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks, Adam

Maybe I understand. :) Can you just sheathe the roof w/o the rakes for now? Then when it is done and you feel better about letting the braces go you can sheathe the gables, install rakes and finish the roof sheathing. If this doesn't make sense maybe I don't understand.

Bonus, thanks again for the help.

I think you understand my problem. I have thought about that I may be able to sheath the roof first but I don't know howe well that would work out in the end with the sheathing on the ends.

I guess I'll have to give it some more thought. I definately want to get sheathing down on the roof before I take the braces down. The rakes are just causing me issues with that. However if I don't sheath it first then I won't be able to nail the top of the sheathing to the trusses except on the vertical members of the gable trusses.

Thanks again. Adam
